Egyptian Antiquities Information System is the official Geographic Information System (GIS) department of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), the government institution responsible for protecting Egyptian archaeological sites. EAIS collaborates with a large number of national and international stakeholders to develop Cultural Resource Management in Egypt and facilitate site management and protection.
New Organization
The organization of EAIS will change in October 2007 when the project will no longer be mainly funded from Finland. It will continue to act officially as the GIS Centre and a permanent department of SCA.
However, to ensure that the centre can remain independent, an International Association "The EAIS Association" has been established to protect the name and the work of EAIS and to continue the documentation started seven years ago. The EAIS Association will function as a foundation that will be able to source and administer funds for the GIS centre.
