A stone pavement found here suggests the presence of a temple, but very little information is available regarding its history, although it was probably founded during the Middle Kingdom. Soundings under the modern village have revealed mudbrick houses, potsherds and several inscribed blocks and remains of columns.
The pavement is exposed and surrounded by the modern village without any fence or site boundary. This site exemplifies the lack of adequate site protection in Egypt and until the authorities clearly show the importance of preserving these remains, the local villagers cannot be expected to go to any lengths to preserve or report archaeological finds.
