The EAIS in collaboration with the SCA/Amlaak Department has undertaken a venture to digitally document all Egyptian registered archaeological sites. The role of SCA/Amlaak has been to supply the EAIS team with tables in paper formats containing information about the archaeological sites. Most important is the location in the form of the X and Y coordinates for the CG (Center of Gravity) of these sites. The EAIS technical team created Excel sheets from the given tables and then converted these coordinates into "Point" format using GIS software. If the output appears illogical a revision is later conducted between an SCA/Amlaak representative and EAIS team member to verify the actual location of the site.

However, the output of this collaboration should only be considered as a primary investigation to the actual site location as it is only based on the visual extraction of the coordinates from the official archaeological site map.

The output layer has been superimposed on MSD 1:250 000 topographical maps to be used as a background map that provides the basic information for the surrounding areas around the archaeological site.

For easy manipulation, Egypt was divided into small sections based on the 1:250000 Map index. In the following section, the user has an opportunity to select any of the 77 sheets that contain archaeological sites and view a full size image of the archaeological sites in this sheet with the 1:250000 MSD topographical maps as a background. For technical reasons, the image displayed had to be small in size, unfortunately causing many of the details to be blurred. We welcome interested persons to visit or contact the project to examine a higher resolution copy.
