Institutes and Universities

Foreign and national institutes and universities are extremely important partners and several successful collaborations have been initiated since the start of EAIS.  EAIS acts as an important venue for international institutes to conduct research and work in Egypt.

The work includes a joint collaboration between EAIS and the School of Architecture Belleville, Paris, L'Université Paris X-Nanterre and The Polytechnic School of Bari, Italy on the rehabilitation of the city of Rosetta (Rashid) on the Mediterranean coast (for more information on the Rashid case study, click here).

In Port Said, our case study has involved collaboration with École de Chaillot and Euromed to create a heritage inventory of the houses in the city (for more information on the Port Said case study, click here).

Most recently, EAIS worked with the School of Architecture LaVillette, Paris on the documentation of houses in Qurnah on the West Bank of Luxor.

Another type of collaboration and means to extend the influence of the project, gain experience, train staff and get additional funding is twinning. The purpose of this activity is to establish a kind of expert exchange programme and a permanent, equally beneficial collaboration between two participating institutes.

As a result, EAIS has initiated collaboration with the University of Helsinki. The first postgraduate student from the Institute for Asian and African studies began archaeological research work for the EAIS database in October 2006.

Two more MA students from the Institute joined the EAIS archaeology team in late January 2007 to do a compulsory 2-month practical training period of their curriculum.

During 2007, EAIS intends to develop collaboration also with other foreign and national institutions in order to establish a permanent student exchange programme to support its functions.
