Since its launch, the EAIS project has been building a solid experience in historical sites management by conducting collaborative projects with national and international universities and research institutes.
Among the several case studies that were undertaken are pilot projects in Rosetta, Alexandria and Qurnah, dealing with integrated heritage management, documentation and training. The latest of these projects is a 6 months training on Site Management Planning which was offered to 15 SCA’s inspectors in Luxor. It was funded by the American Research Centre in Egypt and aimed at the production of a Pilot Demonstrative Plan for the management of Madinet Habu temple in western Luxor.
The Site Management plan of Madinat Habu is a practical step by step Action Plan that has been developed parallel to conducting the Site Management Training. It will be used as a demonstration of adapted site management techniques and would in this sense guide SCA in conducting and supervising site management actions nationwide. The Plan will be complemented by a manual entitled "Guidelines for Site Management Planning", which is similarly being prepared as part of Site Management Training.
In parallel, a National Training and Site Management Centre for Egypt has been created and equipped within Carter House in Luxor. The Center’s role is to coordinate site management actions, develop new plans and conduct new training.
The training was conducted by a Team led by Dr. Naguib Amin and involving several national and international experts in addition to junior members of EAIS.
EAIS is now and mandated by the SCA to conduct and encourage the development of sites’ management planning best practices for Egypt’s historical sites.
