The mapping department has created a number of large scale wall maps for each governorate handled by the system and a number of case studies, including Alexandria’s Turkish Quarter and the Ottoman houses of Rashid (Rosetta). The wall maps for the case studies combine maps, photographs and text to outline the problems the sites and buildings face, and discuss needs for site protection.

Printed A0 are a very important part of EAIS dissemination: they are fast to produce and provide the viewer with a general perspective of the distribution of archaeological sites.

The main beneficiary of these maps has been the local inspectorate offices, who often lack access to recent maps with updated and official site borders.

The following layouts display samples of the data available for some of the governorates that have  studied by EAIS. The archaeological sites displayed on each map are the sites geographically located inside the governmental borders, even if this is different than the location mentioned in the Amlaak registers. The sites are labeled by their names as they are mentioned in the official decrees and Amlaak records. The sites are marked according to their legal status as mentioned in the Amlaak registers.

Data used as backgrounds depends on several factors (availability, coverage, etc.). Whenever possible, archaeological sites are overlaid on the same backgrounds to facilitate output comparison. For enhanced visualization, the backgrounds used in A0 maps are either satellite images or vector layers. Other backgrounds, as ESA cadastral maps and others wouldn’t provide much information in such general scale.
