The main event conducted by EAIS is its Annual Workshop for Heritage Management and Protection. The workshop was held at the Flamenco Hotel in Cairo on May 15, 2005 under the auspices of Dr. Zahi Hawass, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and H.E. Mr. Hanu Mantyvaara, Ambassador of Finland.
The workshop aims at promoting Cultural Resource Management (CRM) in Egypt, through increasing collaboration between SCA and other institutes, highlighting problems affecting archaeological sites as well as proposing recommendations concerning registration and protection of those sites. Over 90 people from the SCA, GOPP, ESA, universities and foreign institutes in Cairo, and concerned external actors attended the presentations done by EAIS members and participated in a number of round table discussions.
In connection with the 2005 Annual Seminar, an exhibition was held at Bayt as-Suhaymi, a historic house open to the public in the heart of Islamic Cairo. The exhibition consisted of wall maps describing the work of EAIS and was accompanied by two seminars:
o The Concept of Site Management in Egypt (with particular emphasis on Luxor)
o Protection and Registration of Contemporary Architectural Heritage in Port Said.
